Ranger Doug Garners 9th Grammy Nomination!

Dec 11 | Posted by: Riders In The Sky

Ranger Doug, Idol of American Youth and Governor of the Great State of Rhythm, picked up another Grammy nomination this week for his stellar work with western swing powerhouse The Time Jumpers. Their album, “Kid Sister,” a tribute to the late, and extremely great singer Dawn Sears, is nominated for Best Album in the hotly contested Americana category.

Ranger Doug offered these thoughtful words: "Because the Grammy Awards are based on the nominations of our peers, the Grammys are really the pinnacle of recognition for recording artists. We are of course thrilled to be nominated again, so very proud that 'Kid Sister,' our labor of love and tribute to Dawn, is so admired by our talented peers.”

Too Slim, Woody Paul, and Joey heartily congratulated Ranger Doug on the news, with much handshaking, backslapping, and hooting.

“I can make the case that I’ve heard Ranger Doug play guitar more than any other living human being,” said Too Slim, band mate and rhythm section partner for 39 years with Riders. “I’m so happy his tireless devotion to his music and playing gets recognized for the great cool thing it is."

Reflecting over a cup of coffee before a Riders show in the Best Western Coffee Shop in Artesia, New Mexico, the Ranger toted up his Grammy recognitions.

“Well, of course there are the two nominations with Riders In The Sky, both of which won, five with The Time Jumpers, and one for that liner notes deal I did awhile back.”

Will the Ranger attend this year’s Grammy awards and telecast Feb. 12 in Los Angeles?

“Riders have a show in Plano, TX on the 11th,” considered the Ranger. "Maybe I can get a flight out of DFW. There’s a lot of interest from the distaff side of the family.”
