"There is probably no symbol which universally says America to the world than the cowboy heroes of the silver screen.  We are proud and honored to be associated with this release of commemorative postage stamps which honor four of the most iconic of the cowboy heroes: William S. Hart, Tom Mix, Gene Autry, and Roy Rogers.  They gave hope, inspiration, entertainment, and in the case of Gene and Roy a canon of memorable music to millions of moviegoers, and this commemorative issue insures that their legacy will live on for the generations who remember them, and the generations yet to come."
- Ranger Doug

"These cowboy stars live on in the memories of a lot of us who grew up with them in the Forties and Fifties. I think many people of a certain age will agree that they helped form our character by providing heroic, good-natured role models, and adventurous fun for eager young folks. I'm delighted to see them recognized in the beautiful artwork of these stamps."
